U.I. MATRICULATES 2, 723 STUDENTS
Yesterday, Friday, 01 February 2013, the University of Ibadan celebrated the 2, 723 students who scaled through the admission hurdles and became bona fide student-members of the institution. At the matriculation ceremony held at the increasingly popular International Conference Centre, the students were congratulated by the Vice Chancellor, Professor I. F. Adewole, on their successful entry into the University. He emphasized that they were the few who were chosen among the 41,000 plus candidates who applied to study in the University of Ibadan.

The matriculation lecturer, who is also an alumnus of U.I., Professor V.O. Omodo of the University of Uyo, joined the Vice Chancellor in congratulating the students. In his lecture titled "Balancing the Protest Culture Among Undergraduate Students with Making the Best Use of the Golden Opportunity for Academic Excellence", the seasoned lecturer was of the opinion that Nigerian students are known for a culture of protest when they perceive any negligence of duty among administrators. He, however, assured the matriculants that the university authorities had taken and were still taking steps to ensure that the new students had a good tertiary education experience on the U.I. campus. He enjoined the matriculants to be worthy students who do not vandalize school facilities thereby endangering the chance of the future generation of using same facilities.
