The Commencement of 2012/2013 Session Inaugural Lectures

PROFESSOR ADEREMI RAJI-OYELADE'S INAUGURAL LECTURE

The Dean of Arts, Professor Aderemi Raji-Oyelade, gave his inaugural lecture on behalf of the Faculty of Arts on 14 February, 2013 at the historic Trenchard Hall. Faculty of Arts is the premier faculty and so its inaugural came first in the session. In the lecture titled "Fluent In(ter)ventions: Webs of the Literary Discipline", Professor Raji-Oyelade elaborated on the need for a collaboration between science and technology and the humanities. Without actually appearing to do so, he encouraged his audience to embrace the tools of technology, particularly the computer, regardless of their discipline. Since literature is anything that can be taught, then the computer and the internet are veritable tools for the literary scholar whose webs, much like the world wide web, spread in all directions.
