SEVENTH ENGLISH LANGUAGE CLINIC LECTURE



The seventh in the series of the English Language Clinic Lecture of the Faculty of Arts came up yesterday at the Trenchard Hall of the university.

Speaking during the lecture, the guest lecturer, Professor Segun Awonusi of the Department of English, University of  Lagos, in his lecture titled “Nigerian English Speakers and Pronunciation: Problems and Solutions”  advised tertiary institutions across the country  to encourage their students to focus more on pronunciation skills in English Language.

He described English Language as the official language of the nation, whose rules have to be considered properly in the day-to-day activities of every speaker.

Awonusi also added that consulting dictionaries and listening to newscast on social media would be a way of solving Nigerian English speakers’ pronunciation problems.

STUDENTS’ UNION ELECTIONS 2014



The Students’ Union Executive Council election was held on Saturday, 12th July 2014. It was a keenly contested election in which Mr. Victor Oluwafemi Adesola emerged as President with a poll of over thousand five hundred, beating three other contestants.

The post of the Vice President was won by Chindinma Akpa while the General Secretary is Babatunde Adeboye. Ameenat Adekekan emerged as the Treasurer of the union while Oluwaseun Olawumi and Oluwafemi Ojikutu emerged as the House and Sports Secretaries respectively. The duo of Taiye Adegoke and Ukoma Nketa returned unopposed as the Public Relations Officer and the Assistant General Secretary.

The swearing-in-ceremony comes up soon and the management and staff of  University Media Centre and indeed the entire University wish the new exco a hitch free tenure.
